On April 30, 2026, Florian Carius, a student assistant in the Öjendorf Innovation Area research project, successfully presented his Master’s thesis “From Test Field to Future Space” (supervised by Prof. Antje Stockmann and Viktoria Khokhlova).
The thesis examines the spatial transformation of the test and demonstration site in Öjendorf and develops a potential scenario for a multifunctional agricultural park by the year 2040. It focuses on how urban agriculture, open space design, and urban development can be linked in the long term. Based on the experimental structures established on the test site since 2024, the work designs a spatial development scenario that envisions the agricultural park as a versatile, adaptable, and collaboratively designed open space. Particular attention is paid to the integration of productive, ecological, and social uses, as well as the role of neighborhood involvement, participation, and adaptability in the development process. The thesis thus makes an important contribution to the further development of the research project and to the discussion on urban agriculture as a component of sustainable urban and open space development.
We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Florian on his successful presentation and thank him for his dedicated work as part of the project team!
